I’m writing an essay on entrepreneurship and looking for examples of both extremely successful entrepreneurships and a few which failed miserably. I’m trying to analyze the cases and explain why the business flopped or succeeded, so the more mainstream the better. I am considering using Amazon.com for the successful business, however I am still unsure of what to use as the failed business.

There is no such list.
But do check out either Inc Magazine http://www.inc.com or Entrepreneur.com as they often feature success stories and occasionally talk of the failures (though there are more success stories than failures).
It all depends on how you define entrepreneurship — the bigger the business such as Amazon, the more stories you can find. I think small businesses that fail would just want to slip through the night without fanfare.
