How do I publish a scholarly article?
Soon I will be applying for law schools… I did’t really participate in any extra curricular activities. I need something to make my application stand out from the rest… I was hoping I could write some articles and try to get them published by scholarly magazines. My areas of knowledge are Business (business finance especially) and Public Law. I have a lot of knowledge about how small business operates. How do I get my articles published (ANYWHERE CREDABLE) and what should I write it about (is there a format I should use).
Please any knowledge on the subject would be appreciated.
Without a graduate degree, your chances of getting an article published in a scholarly journal are incredibly, incredibly slim.
However, there are some undergraduate and graduate student journals that might be just right for you. If there is a Business honor society, see if they publish an undergraduate journal. (Ask one of your professors about this.) Each journal has specific requirements (format, length, etc.) for submissions, and these can vary considerably from journal to journal, so be sure to check before submitting anything.
You also may want to consider presenting a paper at a conference in your area of study. Again, ask one of your professors about this. What you are looking for is a conference in which undergrads have a chance at getting their paper proposals accepted. Often, graduate programs sponsor conferences at their own institutions, and these conferences are more likely to accept papers by undergraduates than are national scholarly organizations, which are mostly for professors and doctoral students.
Finally, you may want to find out if your university has a forum in which undergrads can present on their research. Most universities have some sort of thing of this type. Again, ask the professors in your department.
