How to report a business for illegal practices?
I am currently working at an engineering firm that does a LOT of illegal things.
For example, it’s a corporation, yet the president uses company money to pay for personal things. His personal landscaper, for example, gets paid on a corporation paycheck.
Also, they pay bi-weekly, while in RI that is against the law (unless you are a state or government business, which this is not).
While this is not illegal, it is an extremely hostile working environment, and I’d like to report that as well but that’s not an official “violation” per say.
Anyways, I plan to quit this job and was wondering how to report them for these illegal practices?
Also, I want to get on with my life. Is it possible that by reporting them I’ll get stuck in a legal battle with them for any reason? Or can I report them then move on?
I looked at the Better business bureau site, and there are spots for consumers to complain — but I can’t find anywhere for employees?
I would ask myself why I am so set on reporting them?
You have already decided to leave. Just leave. It was your choice to work there, it is your choice to leave. The one thing I have learned in about 40 years in the workforce is that if you find yourself in a company that does not suit your moral values, its time to leave. Unless there were practices going on that were injurious to others or the environment, there is no point, other than revenge, to report them. Believe me, the authorities that deal with the financial end of things will eventually catch up with them.
