Setting Short and Long Term Goals to Achieve Internet Business Success
In this article, I am going to discuss the topic of goal setting as it pertains to your internet business. Having no goals or plan for your business is like sailing on a ship with no rudder. In that case, you have no direction which can lead to a lot of frustration, just like with your internet business. However, with some simple planning techniques, you can effectively monitor your business and achieve internet business success.
My plan for my internet business is made up of both short and long term goals. The difference is merely the time period. Also, long term goals can be broken down into several short term goals so they are easier to achieve. There is no official rule, but for me, short term goals are things I want to achieve in less than one month. For example, I created a spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel to track key performance indicators for my web site’s success. For example, I track the number of unique visitors, number of subscribers to my opt-in list, number of affiliate sales and revenue. Each month I set a target and then I fill in the actual results so I can compare. This way I know at all times if I am meeting my goals or not. To take this one step further, I choose to chart this data so it is very visual and easy to understand quickly where I need to focus my attention. This is a very powerful tool and easy to implement for anyone. If you would like a sample copy of my spreadsheet, please visit my site and sign up for my free newsletter or send me a direct email.
For me, long term goals are greater than one month to accomplish. For the most part, my long term goals are yearly targets I want to achieve. Again, there are no rules here so these goals are completely up to you. Some examples could be a target number of site visitors, target number subscribers to your opt-in list or number of affiliate sales for 2010.
Setting these goals is completely up to you. But, simply by making these targets, you will find that it will shift your mindset and your way of thinking from ambiguous targets like, “I would like to make some extra money on the internet someday” to “I want to achieve $10,000 in net profit by end of 2010 with my online business”. Do you see the difference? The second target is concrete, specific and has a time deadline.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read my article. I hope that you will take these tips and put them to good use in your own internet business website. If you would like to read more, please visit my website!
