The Importance Of Ethics In Your Home Business
When we hear the word ethics, what is the first thought that pops into our minds? Honesty? Integrity? Fairness? Truthfulness? Webster says that ethics is “a system or set of moral principles; the rules of conduct governing a particular class of human actions; values relating to human conduct with respect to the rightness and wrongness of actions and the goodness and badness of motives and ends”. The best way to define ethics might be the propensity to do the right thing when nobody is looking.
A home based business can be a challenging environment for developing and practicing ethics on a consistent basis. The opportunity for making money online or through a brick and mortar store will influence our decisions. It is essential to understand the importance of integrity and honesty if we are going to create the success of our home businesses. Ethics will help keep our procedures legitimate and our choices committed to the needs and concerns of the customer.
These guidelines can help cultivate ethics in our home businesses.
1) Are We Honest?
One of the best ways to develop ethics is to analyze our motivation for creating a home based business. Earning money will most likely be the fundamental reason for starting an internet venture. This is why most of us have made the leap to our work from home enterprises. But, we need to ask ourselves what kind of daily practices are we going to devise for developing a profit. This is when we will discover if ethics are part of our internal processes.
The old adage is that “Honesty is the best policy”. We need to be transparent with our business practices and we must be committed to our customers. Our goal should be to provide an excellent service, a quality product and an atmosphere of trust. Our home businesses must operate as if the entire world were scrutinizing our practices. Consumers will know if we demonstrate business ethics.
One of the main goals for creating a home based business should be to develop trust with our clients while providing a product or a service that improves their lives. Honesty can help lay that foundation. If we are not ethical, our customers will not return. More importantly, our reputations will suffer because they will tell others about our practices. 2) Are The Prices Fair?
Fair prices can convince our shoppers that we have their best interests as a priority. Providing a service or a product at a high cost does not guarantee a profit. Consumers are intelligent and they will compare prices before they spend their hard earned money. Show the customer that we want their business by giving them a reasonable amount to pay for our products or services. This will reveal our integrity because we are displaying awareness and concern for what they can afford to spend.
3) Are We Informed?
It is the responsibility of the home business owner to stay informed. Rules, regulations and laws are always being introduced or modified for the online or brick and mortar store proprietor. Staying aware of these developments and introducing these changes to our business procedures is important. This conveys a commitment to customers for running our home enterprises legitimately. In addition, we show clients our concern for their shopping experiences.
Being observant of our shopper’s interests is essential. Researching for new products and services provides our customers with current information for helping them make better decisions. Consumers are informed of the developments in the retail world through the contact they have with the media. If we furnish potential buyers with the latest data and merchandise, we indicate that their shopping experience is important to us. We may not only make a sale but it will reveal that we are committed to giving our shoppers better choices. This will allow our customers to make informed and confident purchases. They will come to trust us because they see that we are concerned about their lives.
Ethics cannot be taught in a book. Ethics must develop from within us. In the arena of home businesses, we must strive to create an environment where our customers know that they can trust us. If we focus on being honest, delivering fair prices and providing customers with the latest business conditions, our integrity will help create our work from home success.

Dress codes in business, are they ethical?
Doing a research paper and chose the topic of dress codes or the unspoken “right and wrong” opinions of the proper business attire.
I have to have 5 juried sources, being an open topic with almost all articles being opinion based, I am having some difficulty finding sources to use.
Can anyone please help me find some topics on this, any aspect on this subject will do. Please leave me a link or where to find the article or better yet some articles on this topic.

“Juried sources” are going to make it difficult.
The dress codes I am aware of are part of the employment contract/condition for employment. They are often written down. In more than one case they exclude sandals for instance because the shoes need to protect the feet from objects being dropped on them (knifes, boxes etc).
