Hi,
I am from India and live in USA for 8 years. I work in the field of retail business where I have good opportunity to talk to the customers. i am in good vocabulary. I can watch full movie and understand. I can read magazines. my problem is I can’t talk with free flow. most of the time I talk very slow and avoid prolonging the conversation. for me it seems I take time to think what to say next and talk. it seems I translate inside my mind with my native language and vice versa. i feel shame. please someone help me to improve my english fluency. Thank you very much.
Practicing by talking is one thing. The more you’ll talk, especially without thinking about what you’re saying first, the more your brain will get used to the language. It’ll come to you automatically, if you just stop worrying about it. So get native English speakers around you, whether they are friends or strangers by joining a group.
Another helpful step would be to read books. When reading, not only will you encounter new vocabulary and see how it can be used in various ways, but you will also have the time to study sentences, terms or words that are new to you. Thus you won’t feel rushed, and can start memorizing details better. This will result in you being able to form longer sentences as well.
