If you’re thinking about getting a website for your company or small business, and you’re not quite sure how it all works, here’s a how to overview of the process. While there are still free services out there that will give you an internet presence (such as myspace), nothing can equal the impression you give with a professional looking website.
Okay… So you will need to think of a domain name (hopefully www.yourcompanyname.com or .net is available). This can sometimes be a tidies process because all the great names got snacked up a long time ago. Sometimes simply adding my, find, or search in front of your name, or city, state abbreviations (atl for Atlanta, GA for Georgia) behind it can help.
Next is hosting, this is basically a computer out in cyber space somewhere that people will view your website on. So now you need content, what do you want your visitors to see? It’s a good idea to Google similar businesses to see what they have to get an idea of what should be included on your site. You should also take note of websites you like, what color scheme do you want, what layouts do you like (as far as where the menu buttons and other elements are located on the page).
Once you have a pretty good idea about what you want, it’s time to find a web designer. This can be a great experience or an absolute nightmare. Ideally your best friend or brother is a web designer, if not you will need to locate one. If you have friends who are also business owners you can see if you like their website and use their web designer. You can always search for a web designer on Google.
Mainstream price can vary quite a bit depending on what you want but some of the simplest websites start at over $1000 unless you know somebody or you sacrifice quality. If you’re gonna do it, do it right. Eye catching flash animations and flash intro pages, sound FX, music, videos, anything to make the visit more memorable. So find a company or individual and check out their work. Get your website up and running. This is an investment. There are opportunities out there to advertise for free but you need a website. A website is something every business and organization should have. Bite the bullet and take advantage of it. You’ll be glad you did.

I am looking for the same answer. I graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance last September from a college based in Detroit. After all this time, I still have been unable to find a job. I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 3.90 G.P.A., had my resume posted on multiple job search websites, and searched through my college’s career services office.
