Computer Gallery System Management Case Study

Profile
For more than ten years, Computer Gallery has been providing systems management services for small- and medium-sized businesses in the Palm Springs, CA area. As networks get more complicated, most home businesses aren’t equipped to deal with their own ever-increasing IT wishes. The Company can offer services to operate as a whole outsourced IT office.

Situation
Before buying N-central, the Company managed network devices for a set monthly charge. They furnished excellent reactive service but did not have the sophisticated tools for visibility into a network. This meant they could only fix isolated issues as they occurred, rather than maintaining an issue-free network. To provide the proactive network services that their customers demanded, the Company required to continually monitor the status of an entire network and fix Problems before they could happen.

Opportunity
the Company wanted to provide managed services. Owner, Joe Popper consulted the True Profit Group to counsel the best technical solution. True Profit Group conducted an exhaustive research of all of the managed service offerings available and strongly advised that they purchase N-central to get the’best bang for the buck’.

Solution
N-central supplies the Company with the facility to provide remote, proactive management services and is compatible with all major network service applications. Using N-central for network monitoring, the Company can charge clients for remote monitoring and then customize additional services as needed. Their customers economize on emer- gency IT calls and the Company increases money options, service quality and trustworthiness.

Benefit
the Company installed N-central quickly and started selling the services to clients immediately. ‘Within a month, we were able to certify the solution as a income generating tool,’ said Popper. One of their first successes was with a performing arts theatre. Their ticketing system had failed on a Sat., but the Company was alerted and fixed the problem remotely, without their customer ever having to worry. ‘Had we not fixed the problem, ticket sales for a sunday Tom Jones concert could have been severely impacted’. Without N-central, it might have been an enormous revenue loss for the customer – but the Company corrected the issue before it became a controversy and before the client knew it.

can i register “my self” as a business??

i am currently working as a barman but was hoping to know wether if i registerd a business with my sister and myself as directors.
i could work for that company and my employer pay the company rather than me, this meaning that the expences incured by the company “me” such as fuel to travel to work and clothing for wrok would all be tax deductable??
I am currently studying business management at university and believe this to be the case but i wanted to see if some of u experts in the field could give me some advice on the matter. Many thanks. Chris.

If I understand your question, you are asking if you can become a contractor rather than an employee, by setting up your own company. First, you can’t deduct your miles to work or your clothing (unless the clothes are not suitable for non-business wear) even if you are self-employed. Second, your company would be responsible for more taxes than you are now–employer’s social security, unemployment taxes, etc.. You would have to negotiate an increase in pay just to break even. Third, you’d be giving up rights you now have as an employee. Also, you’d have expenses of setting it up, you’d need business licenses, and you’d have to file a lot of tax returns.

This type of thinking makes sense and is practical in some circumstances, but I have doubts about the benefits for your situation.
