Generating Sales With Company Holiday Cards
During the holidays, a greeting card can be a simple way to share a little holiday cheer and keep in touch with business contacts. If used correctly, those holiday cards will have you cheering with an added boost to your year-end revenue.
Deciding to send company holiday cards is the first step to success. You want to show all of your business contacts that you care and are thinking of them at this special time of the year. Especially when it’s unexpected, a holiday card can make a lasting impression on anyone in your holiday card list.
Sending holiday cards to new customers can be an affordable way to promote your business and help start lasting customer relationships. Whether it’s a holiday card, birthday card or thank you card, regular contact makes your customers more likely to think of your business first.
When sent to existing customers, holiday cards can help nurture relationships and keep your business on customers’ minds during the busiest time of the year. Holiday cards show your appreciation for their business and foster customer loyalty. Adding a personal message will build your credibility without making the customer feel like they’re being sold to.
Here are some tips for generating sales with company holiday cards:
Share some savings. Especially during the holidays, everyone welcomes a little savings. Sending a coupon with your holiday card can entice recipients to visit your business again.
Send a gift card. The holidays are a time for generosity and gift giving, so why not join in on the fun? Customers will appreciate the gift and remember your business the next time they go shopping.
Make it memorable. Include something they can keep on their desk to remind them of your business throughout the year, such as a calendar, sticky pad or magnet.
Include a business card. While the holiday card may end up in the trash, your business card could end up in their wallet or friend’s hand.
Make it personal. Even if you’re not close with everyone on your holiday card list, leave a brief handwritten note on the inside of each card. It may be the one thing that makes your card stand out from the rest of the pile.
Don’t offend. Unless you know the exact holiday someone celebrates, find cards with a generic message such as “Happy Holidays” or “Season’s Greetings.”
Spreading the holiday cheer with a simple greeting card can help your business reach the end of the year sales goals and foster continuing relationships with valued customers.

Holiday cards that appease all denominations?
For our company holiday card, we wanted one that reflected our product line. We held a vote and our salesstaff chose the image of a “Santa Claus” driving a forklift and loading up his sleigh. We also included a generic message (Wishing you and yours loads of holiday cheer today and throughout the New Year). If you are / were a non-christian business owner, would this card offend you?
Our goals are to 1) thank our customers for their continued loyalty 2) Spread holiday cheer and 3) Produce a card that represents our company (forklift / material handling dealer). Thanks
Your card design sounds nice – and the message is perfectly fine. To be honest, I don’t think many business give much weight to what is on the card – and not all business owners have time or actually see all the cards, anyways. Typically a secretary will open and post them or direct them to a specific department or person.
I don’t think your message is offensive – but keep in mind that you can’t please everyone (but seriously, who is going to complain about that?!). There are people that don’t believe in celebrating Christmas at all – no Santa, no nativity, no holiday cards!
We tend to send a pretty card with a Season’s Greetings message – thanking them for the past business and best wishes for a prosperous new year ahead. One tip – you may want to include your company name on the front of the card design – that way when a customer of yours posts the card, everyone can see your name on the front (some bonus advertising!). For instance “Happy Holidays from XYZ” or “Season’s Greetings from XYZ” on the front. Or be sure your name or recognizable logo is on the fork truck.
Honestly, I think your card is perfectly suited and anyone receiving it will appreciate being thought of. At that time of year, people (religious or not) understand the meaning of the season varies person to person and don’t take offense to well meaning good wishes.
