Promote Your Business in business directories – Start With a Website
There are many different types of business directories on the Internet. Although the goal is similar, which is to help promote your offline or online businesses, they serve different functions. Some business directories exist solely for internet marketers to build back links. Others may be location or niche specific. And yet others offer a wide range of promotion services to cater to the diverse needs of different customers.
So if you are considering promoting your business in business directories, first think about the your goals and business objectives. Remember, business directories are not just meant for online businesses. Offline businesses like restaurants or entertainment spots have benefited greatly from online promotion efforts.
Of course the first thing you need to have is a web presence, although this is optional. The website is like the store front of your business. It can be used to capture leads, and offer more information about your products and services. It can even be used for corporate communication purposes, where you promote more of your brand.
If you do not have a website, you can still promote your business in business directories by listing your contact information and a brief description about what you offer. Chances are, you will still get some response but your efforts may not be maximized. Some online visitors who want to find out more information about you but couldn’t do so may be shy to contact you. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you get a website before starting your online promotion efforts.
Although starting your website may take up some time, it can be done very quickly if you take the time to plan for it. For example, think about the content that you need for your website. How are you going to organize these pages? And how will the customers contact you on the website?
If you find yourself getting stuck early in the planning process, try to get a professional web designer involved. Professionals have more experience in setting up websites and may be able to offer you valuable ideas. Often, consultation advice are given freely. Of course, if you find the advice valuable, do reciprocate and give them your business.
Once you are clear about what you want, communicate your needs to your website designer. Be as specific as you can. Whenever possible, give them examples or links to specific websites that are very close to what you are looking for. This will help prevent future problems and eliminate a lot of frustrations. Also, changes can be kept to a minimum. Remember that the fees that you are paying is a finite number, so don’t expect the design company to make unlimited rounds of changes for you. Most will offer a reasonable 2 to 3 rounds of changes. And if you want more changes, you may be charged for those requests. Therefore, planning and communications are important elements when setting up a website.
